Pro-Bit®, an STM brand, is an innovative solution for preserving asphalt surface layers that prioritises sustainable, cost-effective and practical application. The product has been specially developed to slow the aging of asphalt binders and to safeguard long-term surface functionality, all without solvents. Asphalt surfaces undergo two essential aging processes: short-term aging during production and long-term aging in service. Thermal stress, UV radiation, oxygen, precipitation and traffic loads lead to embrittlement and microcracking, and ultimately to visible damage such as aggregate loss and potholes. The result: high maintenance costs and compromised road safety. This is where Pro-Bit® comes in. The product penetrates deeply into the asphalt matrix, prevents the loss of volatile maltenes and reduces water ingress. It seals microcracks and small voids, and shields the surface against oxidation and UV radiation. This enhances resistance to weathering and mechanical loading. Pro-Bit® was developed specifically for heavily trafficked logistics, airfield and road surfaces (e.g. porous asphalt (PA)), where long-term functionality and durability are critical. Application is solvent-free and low-odour, and can be performed without disrupting operations. By extending service life, the demand for primary raw materials such as aggregates and bitumen decreases, while CO2 emissions are reduced. Compared to complete surface layer replacement, only a fraction of the usual costs are incurred.
