Pro-Bit®, a brand of STM, is an innovative solution for preserving asphalt surfaces that focuses on sustainable, cost-effective, and practical application. The product was specifically developed to slow the aging of asphalt binding agents and ensure long-term surface functionality, without solvents. Asphalt pavements undergo two key aging processes: short-term aging during production and long-term aging during service. Thermal stress, UV radiation, oxygen, precipitation, and traffic loading lead to embrittlement and microcracking, ultimately causing visible damage such as raveling and potholes. The results are high maintenance costs and reduced traffic safety. This is where Pro-Bit® comes in. The product penetrates deeply into the asphalt matrix, prevents the loss of volatile maltenes and reduces water ingress. Microcracks and small cavities are sealed, and the surface is shielded against oxidation and UV radiation. This increases resistance to environmental exposure and mechanical loading. Pro-Bit® was specifically developed for heavy-duty logistics spaces, airside pavements, and traffic areas (e.g. porous asphalt (PA) surfaces), where long-term functionality and durability are critical. Application is solvent-free, low-odour, and does not interrupt operations. Extending service life reduces demand for primary raw materials such as aggregate and bitumen, while also reducing CO₂ emissions. Compared with full surface renewal, costs are only a fraction of the usual costs. Pro-Bit® is therefore a future-proof solution for preventive road maintenance – resource-efficient, cost-effective and sustainable.
