The SAMI layer (Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer) is used when two layers need to be connected to one another, particularly when the layers are made of two different materials - for example concrete on the bottom and asphalt on the top - as they expand differently when exposed to heat. Does the subsurface have cracks? In this case, too, a SAMI layer is applied so that it cannot expand upwards. And if open-pored asphalt is laid, this serves as drainage and the SAMI layer underneath acts as a seal to the subsurface so that the water can drain away.
